The City of San Jose’s 2010 Community Breakfast
By Kathleen Navas
On February 18, 2010, I got to watch the City of San Jose’s 2010 Community Breakfast with thousands of other citizens. There were three things that I particularly enjoyed.
First, I enjoyed Mayor Chuck Reed’s speech. He was fluent, comfortable, and funny in his speech, and he looked very sharp with his bright yellow tie. He told us about the city’s financial problems and compared them to a deep hole. But, he has a solution. We can all work together to get out of this hole. Also, Mayor Chuck Reed did a good job thanking the police for their hard work in keeping crime and gang violence down.
Second, I liked how every Councilperson honored a special group from their district. Our District 4 Councilman Kansen Chu recognized the Berryessa Chinese School for their many decades of hard work. I am proud to be in the same district as this old and large school.
Last, I like the Employee’s Values. I especially like that they have collaboration and respect in their values. Collaboration is important because people must be able to work together and respect is important because people should acknowledge when someone has done a good job. This breakfast was a good example of the city giving respect to all the community groups and city departments collaborating together to improve our city.
