National Night Out 2009

On Tuesday, August 6, 2009, over 70 San José neighborhoods joined forces with thousands of communities nationwide for the 26th annual National Night Out by enjoying an evening with their neighbors and local police officers.  Over 34 million people and 10,000 communities nationwide were expected to participate in “America’s Night Out Against Crime.”

National Night Out is designed to heighten crime and drug awareness, generate support for and participation in anticrime efforts, and strengthening neighborhood spirit and police and community partnerships.  In addition, this night sends the message that neighbors are working together to keep their neighborhoods safe. Aside from the valuable information parents received regarding neighborhood safety, the resource fair boasted a wide range of activities to entertain and educate youth.

My office proudly took part in National Night Out and hosted our 2nd annual National Night Out Resource Fair and Outdoor Movie Night, featuring the film “Kung Fu Panda.”  By putting together a movie night, families and neighbors were able to attend and participate in a fun and entertaining evening.  Not only did this event promote community unity, it was also a great way for my office to provide important resources for the neighborhood and to involve the District 4 community in this national celebration.

This year, my office proudly took part in National Night Out and hosted an outdoor movie night, featuring the film “Kung Fu Panda.”  By putting together a movie night, families and neighbors were able to attend and participate in a fun and entertaining evening.  Not only did this event promote community unity, it was also a great way for my office to provide important resources for the neighborhood and to involve the District 4 community in this national celebration.

National Night Out was a successful partnership between the community, San José Police Department, and the City of San José. I would also like to thank our community partners, North Valley Community Association, North Valley Chinese Schools, and the Parks and Recreation Staff, for their support and assistance.  The success of District 4 depends on the collaborative efforts of our communities.

If your neighborhood is interested in participating in National Night Out next year, please contact our office at (408) 535-4904.
