Help Save a Life, Adopt a Pet!
Animal overpopulation is at an all time high because people are not spaying or neutering their pets. According to the National Council on pet population, 56% of healthy, adoptable dogs, and 71% of healthy, adoptable cats are put down in shelters across this country because there are not enough adoptions. In an attempt to reduce the amount of animals in our shelters, animal rescue groups take in unwanted pets and try to find them homes. More homes are needed for adoptions.
In an effort to help these groups, and decrease the euthanasia rate at our local shelters, my office along with Dr. David Reed of Bascom Animal Hospital is inviting everyone to the May 4th Indoor Pet Adoption and Information Fair. This fair will provide an opportunity for the public to meet and possibly adopt animals outside of the Animals Shelter environment.
Animal rescuers will be offering animals rescued from the shelter for adoption, including cats, kittens, dogs, puppies, bunnies, guinea pigs, hamsters, birds, mice, and domesticated rats. These animals are in desperate need of forever homes. Rescue groups and advocates will be distributing free informational literature on spay/neuter, animal care, welfare, and maintenance.
If you already have a pet, Dr. Reed will be holding a low cost shot, micro-chipping clinic, and $10.00 nail clipping services. He can also answer any questions on health, or behavioral concerns you may have. Dr. Reed will be offering medications for fleas and heartworm at reduced rates.
I am encouraging all of you to come join me at the upcoming Indoor Pet Fair on Sunday, May 4, 2008, from 1:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m., at the Berryessa Community Center, located at 3050 Berryessa Road.
