A Healthier Community

I believe that having First Aid and CPR knowledge is one of the most important skills to attain.  My entire City Hall staff and I are First Aid, CPR, and AED certified by the American Heart Association.   Anyone can be a victim of a heart attack or cardiac arrest when you least expect it; at the supermarket, the gas station, or even your own home.  Cases of cardiac arrests often result in less than a 5% survival rate if not treated within 10 minutes.

I have been actively working to contribute towards a safer and healthier community.  Yesterday, I sent a memo to the Rules Committee to have Automated External Defribrillator (AED) units required on-site in hotels, motels, and senior apartment communities.

I also have been working with the San Jose Fire Department to bring AED/CPR Training to District 4.  I hope you will take the initiative to sign up.

The Training will be held on March 8, 2008 from 8AM-4PM in the Board Room at Berryessa Union School District Office.  Hands-on instruction will be taught by San Jose Firefighters using materials from American Heart Association.  At the end of the training, graduates will receive Citizen CPR Certification which will be valid for 2 years.  Cost of the training is $17 (payment is due the day of training and is payable by cash or check to “City of San Jose”); if you need financial assistance, my office will offer subsidies.
