BACKGROUND

Kansen Chu is an active community member, an engineer, an accomplished business leader, a dedicated father and husband who has dedicated his time to strengthening the bonds of community: improving our school system, protecting our youths, and improving the quality of life of our families.

Kansen Chu is a San Jose City Councilmember, representing District 4, which encompasses the communites of Berryessa, Alviso, and North San Jose. San Jose is among the largest cities in California and is among the 10 largest cities in the nation. It is home to more than 950,000 residents, Chu is a member of the Neighborhood Services and Education Committee and an alternate to Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority Board. He is also the liaison to the Airport Commission and the Human Rights Commission. Kansen Chu is also the Chair of the North San Jose Neighborhoods Planning Taskforce, a Council appointed body formed in July 2007 to address the growth of 32,000 residential units in North San Jose.

Kansen's dedication to our community is reflected in his many community activities and civic services. He currently serves as a Board Member of Berryessa Union School District, Santa Clara Valley Metro YMCA, Vietnamese Voluntary Foundation and Shin Shin Education Foundation. He also serves on the Advisory Board of Californians for Justice and Vision New America. Kansen has served on the Santa Clara County Mental Health Board, Private Industry Council under Job Training Partnership Act, Neighborhood Accountability Board of Berryessa, the KNTV Channel 11 Community Board Asian Law Alliance, and many other advisory commissions and boards.


Professionally, Kansen has a Master's in Electrical Engineering from Cal State Northridge, and worked as a Microdiagnostics Microprogrammer at IBM for 18 years. Besides serving as the District Director for Assembly member Rebecca Cohn, Kansen and his wife Daisy are proud owners of Harbor Express in Norm Mineta San Jose International Airport.

Kansen and Daisy have been married for 30 years. They have two children. Ann, 25, and Walt, 20.
